A Picard-maclaurin Theorem for Initial Value Pdes

چکیده
In 1988, Parker and Sochacki announced a theorem which proved that the Picard iteration, properly modified, generates the Taylor series solution to any ordinary differential equation (ODE) on n with a polynomial generator. In this paper, we present an analogous theorem for partial differential equations (PDEs) with polynomial generators and analytic initial conditions. Since the domain of a solution of a PDE is a subset of , we identify one component of the domain to achieve the analogy with ODEs. The generator for the PDE must be a polynomial and autonomous with respect to this component, and no partial derivative with respect to this component can appear in the domain of the generator. The initial conditions must be given in the designated component at zero and must be analytic in the nondesignated components. The power series solution of such a PDE, whose existence is guaranteed by the Cauchy theorem, can be generated to arbitrary degree by Picard iteration. As in the ODE case these conditions can be met, for a broad class of PDEs, through polynomial projections.

An iterative method based on Picard’s approach to ODEs’ initial-value problems is proposed to solve first-order quasilinear PDEs with matrix-valued unknowns, in particular, the recently discovered variational PDEs for the missing boundary values in Hamilton equations of optimal control. As illustrations the iterative numerical solutions are checked against the analytical solutions to some examp...
متن کاملOn the convergence of the homotopy analysis method to solve the system of partial differential equations
One of the efficient and powerful schemes to solve linear and nonlinear equations is homotopy analysis method (HAM). In this work, we obtain the approximate solution of a system of partial differential equations (PDEs) by means of HAM. For this purpose, we develop the concept of HAM for a system of PDEs as a matrix form. Then, we prove the convergence theorem and apply the proposed method to fi...

In this paper, we explain a new generalized contractive condition for multivalued mappings and prove a fixed point theorem in metric spaces (not necessary complete) which extends some well-known results in the literature.
